Egypt gas exports set to rise

10 Feb 2022; MEMO: Egypt's natural gas exports are expected to rise to 7.5 million tonnes by the end of this fiscal year, Petroleum Minister Tarek El-Molla said today, Reuters reports.

Egypt's gas exploration plan for the fiscal year 2022/2023 is expected to add 450 million cubic feet to gas production per day and 17,200 barrels per day of gas condensates, the minister added.

The country's investments in gas exploration and production will exceed $1.6 billion both this year and next, El-Molla said.

Egypt’s Anti-Drug Fund Successful In Reducing Drug Addiction Rate: Official

CAIRO, Feb 6 (NNN-XINHUA) – Egypt reduced the drug abuse rate among government employees to 1.7 percent, down from eight percent in 2019, thanks to a slew of measures implemented by the government, to combat drug abuse in government institutions, an official with the country’s drug control fund, said.

Egypt’s Fund for Drug Control and Treatment of Addiction (FDCTA), had randomly tested about 400,000 employees in the country’s government offices, and discovered the rate of drug abuse among government employees had significantly decreased, FDCTA Director, Amr Osman, said.

Egypt reach Africa Cup of Nations final

06 Feb 2022; MEMO: Egypt sealed a 3-1 win against Cameroon on penalties Thursday to face Senegal in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final, Anadolu Agency reported.

Both sides failed to break the deadlock during the match and extra time at Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Cameroon's capital Yaounde.

Ahmed Sayed, Mohamed Abdelmonem and Mohanad Lasheen converted their spot kicks against hosts Cameroon during the penalty shootout.

EU lawmakers urge scrutiny of Egypt’s human rights record

CAIRO (AP) — European parliamentarians urged their governments and the United Nations on Thursday to bring Egypt’s “devastating” human rights situation under more global scrutiny.

The lawmakers issued a statement calling on the U.N. Human Rights Council to establish a monitoring and reporting mechanism on Egypt at its upcoming first and highest-level meeting of 2022, set for Feb 28.

Egyptian Villagers Return Home In North Sinai As Terrorism Defeated

SHEIKH ZUWEID, Egypt, Jan 31 (NNN-MENA) – Villagers from the town of Sheikh Zuweid in North Sinai governorate, east of Cairo, returned to their homes, after terrorism there was eradicated. Terrorist groups spread in Egypt, after the June 30 protests in 2013, especially in North Sinai, which forced many locals to flee.

Egypt has been fighting against terrorist groups that killed hundreds of policemen, soldiers, and civilians in North Sinai. More than 1,000 terrorists have been killed in the military crackdown, over the past seven years.

Sudanese take to the streets in latest anti-coup protests

CAIRO (AP) — Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Sudan’s capital and other cities across the country Sunday for the latest in a months-long string of demonstrations denouncing an October military coup that plunged the country into turmoil.

Protesters, mostly young men and women, marched in the streets of Khartoum and other cities, demanding an end to the military’s takeover. They called for a fully civilian government to lead the country’s now-stalled transition to democracy.

Biden administration to deny $130m in military aid to Egypt

28 Jan 2022; MEMO: The Biden administration is set to deny $130 million of military aid to Egypt over human rights concerns, according to three sources familiar with the decision, Reuters reports.

Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, said in September that the aid would be withheld if Egypt did not address specific human-rights related conditions.

Egypt: Leaked video shows torture in Cairo police station

25 Jan 2022; MEMO: A video leaked to the Guardian is believed to show Egyptian police torturing prisoners at a police station in Cairo.

In one of the videos, which is thought to have been recorded in the Salam neighbourhood of the Egyptian capital, the detainees are hung from a metal grate by their arms.

In the other detainees have wounds across their chests and back which they say were inflicted by officers hitting them with sticks.
