Egyptian President Hails World Youth Forum As Opportunity For “Constructive Dialogues”

CAIRO, Jan 14 (NNN-MENA) – The World Youth Forum (WYF) held in Egypt, offered a real opportunity for exchanging views through constructive dialogues, Egyptian President, Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, said yesterday.

Sisi made the remarks at the closing session of the 4th WYF held in Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh, with the participation of Egyptian and international organisations, civil society institutions, and young people from across the world.

13 Jan 2022; MEMO: Reconstructing Gaza needs more than the $500 million offered by Egypt following the Israeli offensive between 11-21 May 2021, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi said yesterday.

Speaking at a panel of the World Youth Forum (WYF) conference in the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh, Al-Sisi said: "We wished to contribute more than this sum [$500m]."

He added: "I hope that the reconstruction process we promised will end as soon as possible for the sake of our brothers in the Gaza Strip."

Death penalty rampant in Egypt as 'political vengeance'

10 Jan 2022; MEMO: The death penalty has become rampant in Egypt, reports Madr Masr, with executions in 2020 tripling to over 130.

In just one month, October of that year, 53 people were executed, more than the number of people executed each of the previous three years.

The number of executions in the last decade amount to almost half the number issued in the past century.

Egypt is one of the top executioners worldwide.

16 killed in bus crash in north-eastern Egypt's Sinai

CAIRO, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- At least 16 people were killed and 18 others wounded early Saturday in a bus crash on the international highway in the Sinai Peninsula in north-eastern Egypt, the country's Health Ministry said in a statement.

"Due to a fog that reduced visibility, a bus hit a microbus on the road leading to South Sinai province," the statement said.

Some 13 ambulances rushed to the scene. The wounded people who mainly suffered fractures and bruises were transferred to the nearest public hospital, it added.

An immediate investigation was underway.

Al-Shafi'i's name has repeatedly circulated Egypt's media over the past years due to the repetitive injustice he has experienced due to his opposition to the Rabaa massacre.

US arrests man for spying on Sisi's political opponents

08 Jan 2022; MEMO: US authorities have arrested an Egyptian agent in New York for spying on political opponents of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, the US Department of Justice announced on Thursday.

The Egyptian agent, a dual US-Egyptian citizen, was named Pierre Girgis, 39. He was charged with acting illegally as an unregistered agent of the Egyptian government.

Egypt: Suez Canal record highest annual revenue ever in 2021

03 Jan 2022; MEMO: Egypt's Suez Canal achieved a total of $6.3 billion revenue in 2021, the highest in the canal's history, official data showed yesterday.

The state-run Suez Canal Authority (SCA) chief, Osama Rabie, said in a statement that the high revenues had stemmed from a "significant increase in the transit rates of various types of ships compared to 2020."

Mummy Of Egyptian Pharaoh Amenhotep I Digitally Unwrapped

CAIRO, Dec 29 (NNN-MENA) – Egyptian researchers have “digitally unwrapped” the mummy of King Amenhotep I, for the first time, revealing many secrets about the pharaoh who ruled Egypt from 1525 to 1504 BC, a renowned Egyptologist said, yesterday.

Researchers used advanced x-ray technology, computed tomography (CT) scanning and advanced computer software programmes, to digitally remove the wrappings on the mummy of King Amenhotep I in a safe, non-invasive method, without touching the mummy, Zahi Hawass, also the former Egyptian minister of state for antiquities affairs, said.
