Court orders restoration of Sudan internet access

CAIRO, Nov 9 (Reuters) - A Sudanese court ordered the country's three main telecommunications providers to restore internet access, as the country entered its sixteenth day of a blackout following a coup by military leaders on Oct. 25.

While some Sudanese users have managed to find a connection, the blackout has made it difficult for most people to communicate, particularly with those outside the country.

Egypt orders implementation of smoking ban indoors

09 Nov 2021; MEMO: The Egyptian government yesterday issued directives to all ministers and governors to implement a law that prevents smoking in public buildings.

In an official statement, Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, called on all government bodies "to take the necessary measures to activate the mechanisms required for implementing the law."

CAIRO, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi inaugurated on Sunday the fourth edition of the Smart Transportation and Logistics Fair and Forum for the Middle East and Africa (TransMEA 2021) in a massive exhibition center in Cairo.

Held on Nov. 7-10, the four-day expo gathers about 250 companies representing 20 countries, featuring their products and services related to smart, innovative and eco-friendly transportation.

Egypt places female political prisoner in cell with criminals, ENHR reports

08 Nov 2021; MEMO: The Egyptian Network for Human Rights has documented details of the arrest and violations against female political prisoner Tawqa Abdel Basser Abdullah.

Tawqa, 24, was arrested inside Helwan metro station on 9 June 2019 and then forcibly disappeared for 17 days.

A student at Cairo University, Tawqa was seen at the Supreme State Security Prosecution on 26 June 2019 and charged with being part of the "Coalition of Hope".

Egypt's president talks with Iraqi PM over phone

CAIRO, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi made a phone call on Sunday to Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi to check on him following "the heinous assassination attempt" that targeted the Iraqi official earlier in the day, said the Egyptian presidency.

During the phone conversation, Sisi wished al-Kadhimi and all the Iraqi people "security, stability and peace."

For his part, the Iraqi prime minister appreciated the kind gesture, "which reflects the strength of historical relations between both countries."

Egypt Holds Major Conference On Vascular Surgery, Treatment

PORT SAID, Egypt, Nov 6 (NNN-MENA) – Egypt concluded yesterday, a three-day annual conference on vascular surgery and treatment, in the Mediterranean city of Port Said, where more than 70 scientists discussed the latest medical researches and techniques on the disease.

Organised by Egypt’s Mansoura University, the 8th Mansoura EndoVascular Annual Conference (MEVAC), included a number of workshops on how to use the duplex in diagnoses and treatment of peripheral vascular disease.

Sudan talks over coup hit "semi-deadlock", sources from ousted government say

CAIRO, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Talks to resolve Sudan's political crisis after last month's coup have hit "semi-deadlock" because the military has refused to return to a path of democratic transition, two sources from the ousted government said on Saturday.

The sources told Reuters the military had tightened restrictions on ousted Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, who was placed under house arrest during the Oct. 25 takeover when his government was dissolved.

The new restrictions further limited his ability to hold meetings or make political contacts, they added.
