Bush condemns 'brutal invasion of Iraq'

19 May 2022; MEMO: In an apparent slip of the tongue, former US President George W Bush has condemned the "brutal" and "wholly unjustified" invasion of Iraq, when he meant to say Ukraine. The gaffe-prone 75 year old made the remark yesterday during an address at the Southern Methodist University's Bush Centre in Dallas, Texas.

India: Woman killed for dowry in UP's Ghazipur

Ghazipur (UP), May 18 (PTI) A 22-year-old woman was allegedly killed for dowry at a village here, police said on Wednesday.

Chanda's body was found hanging in her room Tuesday morning at her in-laws' Sakra village, they said.

In a police complaint, her father claimed that Chanda's in-laws were demanding a motorbike in dowry, and they allegedly killed and hanged her body.

Israel considers routine use of air power in occupied West Bank

17 May 2022; MEMO: Israel is considering the routine use of air power against the Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. This is one of the possibilities arising from a revamp of Israeli strategy for control and domination of the occupied territory using helicopters and drones. The proposal has been suggested by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) and suggests that the apartheid state is mulling over the idea of taking major battlefield strategies into Palestinian territory.

USA: Tlaib presents resolution for Congress to recognise Palestine Nakba

17 May 2022; MEMO: US Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has introduced a resolution for Congress to recognise the Palestinian Nakba, a day after Palestinians marked the Catastrophe's 74th anniversary. Tlaib was the first Palestinian-American woman to be elected to Congress. The resolution was co-sponsored by Tlaib's fellow Congresswomen Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Betty McCollum and Marie Newman.

Egypt imposes temporary pause on executions of political opponents

16 May 2022; MEMO: Egypt appears to have postponed carrying out death sentences on political opponents as pressure builds internally and the economy continues to spiral.

According to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed the consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on the economy is one of the factors putting pressure on the government internally to clean up its image.

Israeli extremist calls for demolition of Dome of the Rock

17 May 2022; MEMO: The leader of Israeli extremist group Lehava has called for illegal settlers taking part in the annual so-called "flag march" later this month to mark the occupation of East Jerusalem by demolishing the Dome of the Rock, Safa reported on Tuesday. The march is due to take place on 28 May.

India: Girl raped, impregnated by man in J-K's Reasi

Jammu, May 16 (PTI) A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped and impregnated by a man in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district, officials said on Monday.

A person of Pouni tehsil lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday alleging that a man repeatedly raped her daughter who is two months pregnant, they said.
