India: Shops, commercial establishments closed in Punjab in view of 'Bharat Bandh' call by farmers

Chandigarh, Dec 8 (PTI) Shops and commercial establishments remained shut at many places in Punjab on Tuesday morning in view of a 'Bharat Bandh' called by agitating farmer unions to protest the Centre's three agri laws.

Petroleum dealers in the state closed filling stations to back the call for the nationwide strike. There are over 3,400 fuel pumps in Punjab.

India, Israel review ties in key areas

New Delhi, Dec 7 (PTI) India and Israel on Monday carried out a comprehensive review of their cooperation in an array of areas including defence and security, cyberspace, counter-terrorism and energy.

At a virtual meeting of India-Israel foreign office consultations, the two sides also discussed their respective national approaches to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing collaboration in medical research, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

Turkey to never compromise its sovereign rights in E.Med: Foreign Ministry

07 Dec 2020; MEMO:  Turkey will not compromise its sovereign rights on the island of Meis, or airspace covering 10 nautical miles, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Saturday according to a report by Anadolu Agency.

"No sanctions will ever make Turkey compromise its sovereign rights be in Meis/Kastellorizo or 10 nm airspace," the ministry said on Twitter in response to Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias' article against Turkey.

Algeria resumes domestic flights

07 Dec 2020; MEMO:  Algerian authorities yesterday resumed domestic flights after they were suspended months ago due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

Sources told local media that the government had not resumed international flights, adding that the domestic flights were resumed amid "strict implementation of health measures to prevent the spread of the virus."

Iran's top body backs bill to increase uranium enrichment

06 Dec 2020; MEMO:  The Iranian Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) said on Saturday that the recent bill to increase nuclear enrichment "is not in contradiction with the [Iranian] national interests."

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had objected to the Strategic Act to Revoke Sanctions bill which was approved by the Iranian parliament. Rouhani said it will be "harmful" to the country's diplomatic efforts to restore the 2015 nuclear deal signed between Iran and world powers.

India: SC allows Centre to go ahead with foundation stone-laying ceremony for Central Vista project

New Delhi, Dec 7 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Monday allowed the Centre to go ahead with the proposed foundation stone-laying ceremony for the Central Vista project after the government assured it that no construction or demolition work would commence till the apex court decides the pending pleas on the issue.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told a bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar that there would be only foundation stone-laying ceremony, and no construction, demolition or felling of trees would be done for the project as of now.

India: Protesting farmers call on people to back 'Bharat Bandh'

New Delhi, Dec 7 (PTI) Thousands of farmers protesting against the Centre's new agri laws for the past 11 days here have called on people to join their 'Bharat Bandh' on Tuesday in large numbers, as police increased deployment at various Delhi border points.

Farmer leaders also welcomed the support of political parties to the nationwide strike against the laws and demanded that the legislations be repealed.
