GAZA, Palestine, Jan 16 (NNN-WAFA) – Israeli warplanes carried out last night, airstrikes against military positions in the Gaza Strip, in response to alleged firing of rockets from the Hamas-ruled enclave.
Israeli warplanes hovered over the Gaza Strip, and then several explosions were heard, in northern Gaza city, after Israeli air-to-ground missiles hit a military post that belongs to the Hamas militants.
Medical and firefighting teams were on alert and rushed to the targeted posts. No injuries were reported, but severe damage was caused to the military posts and facilities that were bombarded by the Israeli missiles.
In Gaza, no one claimed responsibility for the rocket attack. However, Israeli media, quoting the Israeli army, accused the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement for being behind the rocket attack.
An Israeli army spokesman said, four rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel, where the Israeli army’s Iron Dome air defence system intercepted two of the rockets.
