JERUSALEM, June 16 (NNN-WAFA) – Israel’s military said, war jet and tanks, on Monday night, attacked sites in the Gaza Strip, belonging to Hamas, citing an earlier rocket fire from the Palestinian enclave.
A military spokesperson said, an aircraft hit a “Hamas infrastructure, used for underground activity in the southern Gaza Strip.” In addition, “IDF’s (Israel Defence Forces) tanks targeted Hamas military posts,” the statement read.
Earlier on Monday night, militants in Gaza fired a rocket, hitting an open field in southern Israel, without causing injuries.
Israel’s army frequently retaliates such fire with artillery or airstrikes targeting Hamas posts.
No group immediately assumed responsibility for the fire. It was the first time Gaza militants fired a rocket towards Israel since May 6.
Local Israeli media reported that the fire came in the wake of an upcoming transfer of 50 million U.S. dollars aid from Qatar, to the Gaza Strip. According to a report in Israel Today newspaper, the Israeli government agreed to allow the transfer, in return for halting incendiary helium-filled balloons from the Palestinian enclave towards southern Israel.
