ANKARA, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 2,500 people, including those who violated COVID-19 isolation rules and who were not able to properly self-isolate, are under mandatory quarantine across Turkey, a Turkish official said on Friday.
"As of Oct. 1, a total of 2,474 people are under mandatory self-isolation in dormitories and hostels across the country," Turkish Interior Ministry Spokesperson Ismail Catakli told reporters at a press conference.
Turkey's COVID-19 patients increased by 1,442 on Friday to a total of 321,512, the Turkish Health Ministry announced.
Meanwhile, 63 people died in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 8,325, according to data shared by the ministry.
A total of 1,506 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total recoveries to 282,657 in Turkey since the outbreak.
The rate of pneumonia in COVID-19 patients is 6.4 percent and the number of seriously ill patients is 1,455.
Turkish health professionals conducted 114,857 tests in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall number of tests to 10,608,664.
Turkey reported the first COVID-19 case on March 11.
Turkey and China have supported each other in the fight against COVID-19. Chinese doctors and medical experts held video conferences with Turkish counterparts to share China's experience in treating coronavirus patients, protecting medical workers, and controlling the spread of the virus.
