MOSCOW, April 4. /TASS/: Russia confirmed 8,817 new COVID-19 cases in the past day, bringing the total case tally to 4,580,894, the anti-coronavirus crisis center told reporters on Sunday.
In relative terms, the growth rate dropped to 0.19%.
The lowest growth rates in the past day were registered in the Chukotka Autonomous Region (0%), the Magadan Region and the Tuva Republic (0.01%) and the Sakhalin Region (0.05%).
Some 1,901 COVID-19 cases were registered in Moscow, 711 in St. Petersburg, 598 in the Moscow Region, 276 in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, 241 in the Rostov Region and 203 in the Voronezh Region.
Currently, 276,439 patients are undergoing treatment in Russia.
Russia’s COVID-19 recoveries rose by 8,212 over the past day and the total number of recoveries reached 4,204,081.
The share of recovered patients remained at 91.8% of all those infected.
Over the past day, 1,901 patients recovered in Moscow, 955 in St. Petersburg, 400 in the Moscow Region, 322 in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, 211 in the Samara Region and 206 in the Voronezh Region.
Russia’s COVID-19 death toll climbed by 357 over the past day versus 384 a day earlier, and the total death toll hit 100,374 since the start of the pandemic.
The average mortality rate remained at 2.19%, according to the crisis center.
In particular, over the past day, 56 deaths were recorded in Moscow, 28 in St. Petersburg, 15 in the Rostov Region, 12 in the Krasnodar Region, 11 in the Krasnoyarsk Region, 10 in the Moscow, Tula, Leningrad and Sverdlovsk Regions.
Moscow recorded 1,901 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, while the total caseload has hit 1,034,567 since the start of the pandemic.
According to the crisis center, the Russian capital’s COVID-19 cases climbed by 0.18% over the past day. A day earlier, some 2,011 cases were recorded.
In the past 24 hours, some 56 patients died from complications caused by coronavirus, bringing Moscow’s total death toll to 16,872.
Some 998 people were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, while as many as 949,843 coronavirus patients have recovered in Moscow since the start of the pandemic. Currently, some 67,852 people are receiving medical treatment in Russia’s capital.
The coronavirus spread
Russia’s coronavirus spread rate grew to 1.04 in the past 24 hours, a new high since January 17, according to TASS estimates based on the anti-coronavirus crisis center’s data released on Sunday.
Moscow’s coronavirus spread rate rose to 1.29 in the past day, a new high since March 15.
The coronavirus spread rate remained above 1 only in one out of ten Russian regions with the largest number of COVID-19 cases, besides Moscow: it equaled 1.03 in the Arkhangelsk Region. In the Moscow, St. Petersburg and Rostov Regions it stood at 1.
The coronavirus spread rate was 0.99 in the Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk Region, 0.98 in the Nizhny Novgorod and Sverdlovsk Regions, 0.97 in the Voronezh Region.
The coronavirus spread rate shows the number of people one patient can infect before being isolated. Along with other criteria, it was used to define the regions’ readiness for a step-by-step removal of restrictions introduced last spring to combat the epidemic. Now this rate is used to adopt decisions on resuming regular passenger service with foreign countries.
In accordance with the Federal Service for Surveillance of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing’s recommendations, the borders with a country may be opened if the coronavirus spread rate does not exceed 1 for a week.
Russia’s COVID-19 cases climbed by 61,062 in the past seven days, some 3% fewer than a week earlier, according to TASS estimates based on the anti-coronavirus crisis center’s data.
Currently, the country’s incidence rate stands at the lowest level since September, however, in Moscow, it surged by the end of the week. From March 22 to 28, some 11,088 COVID-19 cases were recorded in Russia’s capital, while from March 29 to April 4, the figure reached 12,016.
According to the crisis center, Russia’s death toll has been declining for the third week in a row. Over the past seven days, the country registered 2,634 deaths compared to 2,710 the previous week, a record low since early November last year. However, the relative mortality rate continues to grow, increasing from 2.16% to 2.19%.
As many as 64,953 people recovered this week, the crisis center noted. This is significantly fewer than the previous seven days when 69,733 recoveries were reported. Nevertheless, the share of recoveries rose from 91.6% to 91.8%.
The number of so-called active COVID-19 cases (patients who are currently receiving treatment) dropped by 6,525 to 276,439 this week, having reached a record low since mid-October.
