Russia refuses to reveal 'sensitive details' of Sudan military base

 Maria Zakharova

04 Nov 2021; MEMO: The Russian Foreign Ministry said yesterday that Moscow does not intend to disclose the details of its military cooperation with Sudan, including the construction of a Russian naval military base on the country's Red Sea coast, "due to the sensitivity of the issue".

The remarks were made by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, in response to a question about the future of the agreement with Khartoum.

Earlier this week, the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Army, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, has said that his country has some reservations about the agreement.

In November 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved a draft agreement between Moscow and Khartoum for the establishment of a Russian naval base on the Red Sea coast.

However, in April, Khartoum froze the agreement in an effort to review it, claiming it had not been ratified by the Sudanese Legislative Council.
