Kanpur: Hundreds of people started raising slogans against the BJP member of parliament at the gate of his Kakadev residence here on Sunday afternoon. Sensing the gravity of the matter the MP along with ex-MLA met the agitators and assured them of needful action.
The assembled people were demanding that their houses should not be dismantled. He told them very specifically that the land belonged to the army. His talk with the District Magistrate could bring positive results. They will be provided with piece of land at another alternative location.
The army has identified as many as 600 illegal houses in Maccharia, Sadullapur, Baniya Nagar, Karmchari Nagar, Guftar Ghat, Bhagwat Das Ghat, Virat Nagar, Uday Nagar and other places for action under P P Act. The people were fearful of losing their dwelling places.
On Saturday the army has destroyed a total of nearly140 houses in Bhajjapurwa as these were raised on army's land marked as A-1. This action was sufficient to cause fear of displacement among them. They gathered at the leader's house for his help in securing some other alternative arrangement.
