KANPUR: 'Neither there will be nine maunds of oil nor Radha will dance--- a famous proverb on the slackness of Jal Nigam. The department could not arrange 100 mts long pipe for the pumping station to begin its operation.
The pumping station was built in the year 2009 under the Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission at the Jalkal headquarters in Benjhabar here. This station was established for water supply of 25 thousand crore litres but could not be started after a decade.
The test run of the pumping station was done in the year 2017. The electric panel and motors were rusting. The British period system still exists. 48-inch wide pipe is needed to connect the motor but the huge expenses of Rs 8 crore may be hindering it!
This matter came to light when the UP Urban Development minister Suresh Khanna has sought a report on the whole affair. He entrusted the responsibility of enquiry to the MD, Jal Nigam.
He had also been told to examine how it should be made functional. The lax officers should also be identified.
In thevmeantim, the Jal Nigam superintending engineer Ram Sharan Pal said that a project was under preparatio. The complete report would be sent to the state government. The pumping station motors would be connected with the existing water supply line as early as it could possibly be.
