United Left has swept Jawahar Lal University’s Student Union (JNUSU) polls to wins all four central panel posts, and Student Federation of India’s (SFI) Aishe Ghosh has been elected as JNUSU president
The election committee that conducted the JNU students’ union elections, using ballot papers, declared the results after the Delhi High Court granted it permission to do so earlier in the day. The results of the election, held on September 6, were not declared as per schedule on September 8 as the High Court was to hear two petitions regarding the polls on Tuesday. The court disposed of both the petitions.
According to The Hindu, Ms. Ghosh won 2,313 votes, while the runner-up, Manish Jangid from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), secured 1,128 votes. Jitendra Suna from Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students’ Association (BAPSA) came third with 1,121 votes. The Chhatra RJD’s presidential candidate Priyanka Bharti got 156 votes, while Raghavendra Mishra, an Independent candidate, contesting the post polled 53 votes.
Satish Yadav from the united Left panel won the general secretary post with 2,518 votes, followed by Sabareesh P.A. from ABVP with 1,355 votes. For the joint secretary post, united Left panel’s Mohammad Danish secured 3,295 votes, while Sumanta Kumar Sahu from ABVP polled 1,508 votes, reported The Hindu.
On the other hand, ABVP won 3 of the 4 posts in recent Delhi University elections, which was conducted with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
