Kanpur: 'Gandhigiri' a very popular term after the year 2006 film, brought fruitful results before the residents of Ward no 29 here. Their method to persuade the Nagar Nigam zonal officials for initiating cleaning drive in their respective localities succeeded at last.
For over the past two months there had not taken cleanliness in Ompurwa Ward and this was intensely unbearable to the Ward residents. So, the area people led by the Corporator decided to place flowers in front of the office of the officer concerned. This was the only option left after inaction over their several complaints in this regard. They reached the zoñal office on Wednesday and covered the officer's room way with the red fragrànt flowers.
This step melted the officer's heart and the safai workers were sent in the area. They carried on the cleanliness drive in the area for several hours. The area people said it continued from morning till afternoon on Thursday. Expressing satisfaction at this action the residents hoped that this cleanliness would not stop in days to come.
The safai workers were given the carts and other equipment used in the cleaning. They cleaned defiled spots and removed the pieces of stuff congested into the drains. About a dozen localities were cleaned on the day.
