Kanpur: Following restrictions over onion export as many as 125 tonnes of onion have been stopped for being despatched to another country. Five trucks laden with this condiment were not heading towards Nepal from the city. One truck contains 25 tonnes of onions. Generally, it takes two to four or five days in reaching Nepal by the land route.
Despite this measure, the denizens have reached the branch of a nationalised bank and deposited the onions at the bank's locker.
This was indeed an odd initiative. The bank's branch manager agreed upon depositing the costly onions behind the locker's safe and protected space. The denizens were wearing onion garland even. However, one vital condition was imposed upon them. The branch manager made it clear that he had no responsibility if the onions were rotten.
The denizens maintained that they decided to deposit the onions into the locker in view of it's skyrocketing prices. It is a very very costly commodity at present.
One dealer in this trade said as many as 70 trucks were daily coming to the city from Maharashtra. But now the situation seems to have been changed a little.
