BOGOTA, Oct 6 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — The UN has again advocated to accelerate the full implementation of the Peace Agreement signed in 2016 between the Colombian State and the FARC-EP, following continued murders of former guerrillas, social leaders and human rights defenders.
This is reflected in a quarterly report on the subject that covers the period from June 27 to September 26, 2019, and will be officially presented on October 10 to the Security Council, the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia reported.
In it, the secretary general of that organization, António Guterres, points out that after two years after the guerrillas laid down the weapons and their reincorporation to society began, the ex-combatants continue to participate in the peace process.
With the demobilization of the FARC-EP guerrillas, as part of the peace process, there are today in Colombia more than 8,000 former guerrilla fighters trying to rejoin society, several of them have been murdered.
The UN report also refers to the need to continue the development of productive efforts in collaboration with local communities, conduct academic studies, participate in local politics, create and seek opportunities for their families and contribute to the work of the Comprehensive System of Truth, Justice, Reparation and Non-repetition.
