India: BJP wins majority of block pramukh seats in U'khand

Dehradun, Nov 6 (PTI) A majority of the BJP's block pramukh candidates won in Uttarakhand on Wednesday, with the party thanking the people of the state for reposing their faith in it once again.

Out of the total of 89 block pramukh posts that went to polls, 53 were won by the BJP, 20 by the Congress and 16 by Independents, according to the final results.

Polling was held on Wednesday and the results declared this evening.

BJP state president Ajay Bhatt claimed, "Out of a total of 76 candidates fielded by the party, 53 have won. Most of the 16 independents who have won are also with the BJP."

"We thank people of the state for reposing their faith in us once again," he said.

Chief Minister Trivevdra Singh Rawat said the BJP's impressive performance was an indication that people had rejected the opposition because of its negative mindset and activities.

The victory of BJP's block pramukh candidates will give fresh impetus to development activities in the state, he said and thanked people for reasserting their confidence in the party.
