UN envoy begins negotiations to bring peace to Bolivia

LA PAZ, Nov 18 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — The United Nations envoy for Bolivia, Jean Arnault, began a series of meetings here with the aim of promoting the pacification of the country, curbing violence and preserving life.

After meeting with the self-proclaimed president, Jeanine Áñez, Arnault insisted on the urgent need to contribute in the best possible way to the objective of holding free, transparent and inclusive elections.

The UN representative stressed that when he arrived in La Paz he met several efforts that he described as ‘encouraging’ in the direction of seeking a political solution.

In this regard, he expressed the hope that the UN can make a contribution to this process of pacification by helping to call for elections in which all the political players feel committed to.

The emissary of the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, according to a statement published on Nov 14, Arnault has the mission of contacting ‘all political actors’ and offering the support of the international organization in the search for a peaceful solution to the critical situation that arose after the overthrow of former president Evo Morales.
