“Kashmir situation should be declared national calamity and central Govt. Should compensate for the economic disaster “: Yechury

Chandigarh, November 20, GANASHAKTI: “ It is more than 100 days for the lockdown of Kashmir. The economy of the state has been totally shattered. The apple crop has been worst affected. Apple growers have suffered a loss of more than 10 thousand crores of rupees. Tourism industry is shut up. In absence of internet there can be no tourism business. The daily wagers are the worst affected.

Youth and students have no where to go. The central government should declare the situation in Kashmir as National Calamity and compensate for the loss to the people.  Communication should be immediately restored. The constitutional rights of the people should be restored at the earliest. The thousands of political activists detained without any legal framework should be released “, said Comrade Sitaram Yechury. He was addressing a Press conference here today at Cheema Bhawan, State Headquarters Punjab CPI(M).

Commenting on the ayodhya verdict Comrade sitaram Yechury said that the judgement has been delivered. But there are certain question which have arisen from this verdict. He explained that the verdict itself has said that the demolition of the Babri Masjid was unlawful. He asked then where is the punishment for the people who violated the law ? He expressed eservations at the manner in which it has been termed as a dispute between Hindus and Muslims . He said that it was a case by petitioners claiming right over a piece of land . He feared it may create communal divide the way it has been dealth with .

Commenting on the state of economy in the country comrade Yechury said that we are passing through a period of recession as GDP growth has come down . He explained that Industrial

growth  is lowest  and consumer expenses are lowest in 40 years .Comrade Yechury claimed that the unemployment is highest in 45 years. He further told that there is cut down in production in auto industry to the tune of 30%. And it has resulted in retrenchment of 10 lakh  workers . He informed that overall 30 lakh workers have lost their jobs due to less production in industry. He quoted the example of Parle G . He demanded that Govt. should invest in a big in infrastructure to create jobs and thereby increase the purchasing power of people to help increase production in industry.

Comrde Yechury criticized the central govt. for writing off more than 5 lakh crores of debts of Corporate friends but raised its hands when the question of writing off of debts of peasantry came up . He lamented that the suicides by thousands of pesants is of no concern for this govt.

Comrade Yechury condemned the effot of bringing foreign  managed people to Kashmir  but not allowing the Indian MPs and political leaders to visit Kashmir. He also condemned the attack on peacefully protesting JNU students .

Comrade Sitaram Yechury informed that tmore than 20 crore workers will go on nationwide strike on 8th January, 2019 on the call of 10 Central Trade unions . . He also informed  that CPI(M) will is planning to launch a long drawn struggle against this govt.  on the peoples issues . He informed that a ‘National Platform of Peoples Movement’ will be built u shortly by Left parties by associating all secular and democratic  parties and people.
