Kanpur: Three tanneries were found to be running in the raid conducted by the pollution control board and the district administration at Jajmau area on Sunday night.
Earlier as many as four tanneries were caught in running position.
The national green tribunal has expressed deep concern over the running of tanneries despite state govt's order to keep them closed. In the absence of the treatment plant, how can the tanneries run? The officers concerned acted upon action owing to the NGT's annoyance.
The raid was carried out on 11:30 pm on Sunday. Pollution Board's engineers took out raids in different teams. One tannery near Budhiaghat and two at Saraiyan would face penalty and legal case after the state government's recommendations, as was reported.
