Morocco sets up $1bn fund to tackle economic effects of corona

17 Mar 2020; MEMO: Moroccan King Mohammed VI has issued instructions to set up a $1 billion fund to rehabilitate the health sector and support vulnerable economic sectors affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

The Royal Moroccan Court said in a statement that the fund will be used to purchase new equipment needed by the health sector to confront the virus, adding that  a portion of the funds will be allocated to “support the national economy and sectors most affected by the spread of coronavirus (Covid 19) and alleviate the social repercussions of this crisis”.

Authorities yesterday announced the suspension of international flights until further notice in an effort to contain and prevent the spread of the virus.

The number of coronavirus patients in Morocco has reached 28 cases.
