India: Encroachments hamper the fast pace of the metro project

 Metro Kanpur

Kanpur: Metro Project in the city moves with its fast momentum but it gets setbacks owing to illegal constructions coming in its routes.

Though the Project officials insist on providing metro rail with 34 metro stations up to the year 2024, the narrow width of the road extending from Rawatpur tri-crossing to Bada Chauraha vexes them.

They decided to approach the Municipal Corporation authorities for the dismantling of illegal houses and shops But the Nigam authorities reminded them that the GT Road comes under the PWD.

In its letter to UP Metro Rail Corporation, additional chief engineer, the Nagar Nigam executive engineer RK Singh stated that the encroachment comes under the purview of NHA so the demolition can be done by the PWD.

As many as 48 illegal shops are falling into the way from Rawatpur tri-crossing which need to be demolished to widen the road for the smooth run of traffic.
