BAGHDAD, Oct 28 (NNN-NINA) – The extremist Daesh militants, killed five family members and wounded two others, on Tuesday, in Iraq’s eastern province of Diyala, a local official said.
The incident took place at a village, near the town of al-Maqdadiyah, some 100 km north-east of Baghdad, when the militants shot dead a shepherd and planted a bomb under his body and another one on the road leading to the body, Hatem al-Tamimi, mayor of the town, said.
Afterwards, two of the victim’s brothers, who were trying to retrieve the shepherd’s body, were killed as the bomb under the body went off, al-Tamimi said.
The blast prompted the victim’s family to rush to the scene, but the bomb on the road detonated and killed the victim’s grandfather and a cousin and wounded two of the victim’s family members, he added.
Despite repeated military operations in Diyala Province, remnants of Daesh militants are still hiding in some rugged areas near the border with Iran, and in the sprawling areas extending from the western part of the province to the Hamreen mountain range in the north.
