BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- The number of cases of serious violent crimes in China dropped in 2020 to the lowest level in two decades, according to a work report of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) unveiled Monday.
The number of criminal cases handled by the SPP last year was also at its lowest level in the past four years, read the report submitted to the ongoing national legislative session for deliberation.
With efforts of procuratorates, China's three-year campaign against gang crimes achieved complete success and the country saw marked improvements in public security and order, according to the report.
Since 2018, a total of 149,000 people were arrested for gang crimes and 230,000 people were prosecuted, read the report.
The procuratorates also prosecuted 2,987 people for being the "protective umbrella" in gang crimes, according to the report.
