 Ganga bridge

KANPUR: Built during the British days the two-storey bridge that connects the City to Shuklaganj area requires repairing as has been disclosed in the initial inspection report conducted by the Central Road Research Institute.

A primary report in this regard has been entrusted to the Public Works Department and the Setu Nirman Nigam.

A sum of rupees 29.50 lakh for detailed inspection has been sought from the PWD.

Rakesh Singh, GM, Setu Nirman Nigam told that the budget for detailed inspection was required. After completing the process a thorough inspection will be done.

Raised in the year 1875 this sturdy bridge was closed for public transport on April 10.

It has been found in the inspection that pillar no 10 remains risky for use. A gap or crevice in the pillar makes it useless.

The pillars were raised with bricks. The lower portion of the pillar is larger than the upper portion. Girder made of steel grasps the lower part of the pillar.

It was also cleared that a comprehensive inspection will let the authorities concerned know of further improvements.
