TASHKENT, July 14 (Xinhua) -- The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell will visit Uzbekistan this week to attend an international forum on connectivity between Central and South Asia, the EU delegation in Uzbekistan said Tuesday.
The forum, scheduled for July 15-16 in the Uzbek capital,`will discuss regional trade, economic, transport and communications ties between Central and South Asia, as well as the security and stability in the region.
When in Tashkent, Josep Borrell, also vice president of the European Commission, will also touch upon the situation in Afghanistan as part of the EU effort to find a peaceful resolution to the Afghan conflict, the EU delegation said.
Borrell is also expected to meet with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and foreign ministers of the Central Asian countries.
Uzbekistan said earlier that Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani will attend the forum.
The forum will gather foreign ministers of the countries of Central and South Asia, as well as representatives of major international and regional organizations, global financial institutions and companies, and leading research and analytical centers, according to the Uzbek president's press service.
