India: Retina surgical unit to be set up at Kanpur medical college

Kanpur: The State Government has given its consent for setting up the retina surgical unit at Hallet Hospital here. It is in the interest of the children's eye treatment.

It is they who had to face the retina related complex operation in the city. A sum of rupees nine crores will be extended for the purchase of advanced appliances used in the operation.

HoD, Ophthalmology Prof. P Khan said the little children used to endure prematurely retinopathy problems. It remains since their birth. Besides, the patients suffering from Diabetes also undergo this problem.

In absence of better arrangement at the GSV medical college, the retinal patients were being referred to SGPGI usually.

If this advanced unit starts at the medical college here, the children will be treated properly. They will not have to go to Chennai or Lucknow or Delhi.

The entire ophthalmology department will thus be upgraded with the establishment of the unit.

Although the treatment of the disorder goes yet the operation is not done in absence of the advanced appliances. Necessary devices are available only at AIIMS and SGPGI.

There are only 250 surgeons available in the whole of the country. Cities like Kanpur and Allahabad are the places where surgeons remain at the respective medical colleges in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
