Turkish Soldier Killed In Northern Iraq

ANKARA, Sept 13 (NNN-ANADOLU) – One Turkish soldier was killed and another wounded, in an attack by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, Turkey’s defence ministry said yesterday.

The PKK attacked a Turkish military vehicle, outside Turkey’s base in the “Operation Pence-Simsek” zone, the ministry said in a statement.

The attack came, one day after three Turkish soldiers were killed and two others injured, in an attack in Idlib, north-western Syria.

Turkey regularly conducts cross-border operations on PKK bases in northern Iraq.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organisation by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, has been rebelling against the Turkish government for over 30 years, which has claimed the lives of more than 40,000 people.
