25 Sep 2021; MEMO: The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas on Friday called for Head of the Sovereignty Council of Sudan Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok to stop harassing Palestinians in the country.
In a statement, Hamas called for Al-Burhan to: "Personally interfere to stop harassing the Palestinians in Sudan, including taking over their investments, homes and companies, which they acquired and built legally and with the agreement of the state."
On Wednesday, Reuters reported that officials from a task force set up to dismantle the regime of ousted President Omar Al-Bashir seized real estate, company shares, a hotel in a prime Khartoum location, an exchange bureau, a TV station and more than a million acres of farmland.
The following day, Hamas denied having any assets or investments in Sudan. "We don't have any investments in Sudan," Hamas Spokesperson Hazem Qassem announced in a statement, pointing out that all the aforementioned assets were owned by Palestinian businesspeople and investors who do not have links with Hamas.
Hamas reiterated that it does not have any problem with authority in Sudan, citing a "shining history of good relations" between Sudan and the Palestinians.
The Palestinian resistance movement also cited the support of the consecutive Sudanese governments of the Palestinian issue.
"We hope that the Palestinian people and the Palestinian issue are distanced from the political development inside the Arab state, considering Palestine is a central issue for the Arab and Muslim nations," Hamas affirmed.
On 23 October, 2020, Sudan announced the normalisation of ties with the Israeli occupation state, despite the opposition of the Sudanese people and most of the Sudanese political movements and NGOs, including factions that are part of the ruling body.
Meanwhile, Hussein Al-Sheikh, senior aide of Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas, called for the Sudanese leadership to hand over assets confiscated from Palestinians in Sudan to the PA.
As reported by Maydan Qatar news agency, Al-Sheikh confirmed that the PA's treasury: "Is in need of every penny from the Palestinian assets in Sudan."
