India: Omicron scare dwindles hopes of leather exporters

Kanpur: Facing the sting of the negative growth during the last two years, finished leather exporters here have fallen to dread of fresh variant.

The buyers were unwilling to move in the midst of deadly virus. Therefore the exporters have now leaning on Chennai Fair in Jan 2022.

Even Germany's Spoga Fair in February at Cologne is not exempt from the virus impact.

The Omicron scare has hit the leather industry badly. It has noticed a 60% loss in sales and production.

Barely 40% business is left for the leather exporters to manage, as they maintain.

According to the exporters, all the sectors of the industry have seen unfavourable improvement barring saddlery which has reported 10% optimistic growth.

Given such an adverse situation there are financially strong exporters who find solace in Dubai market for their order. They also look supported with a multiple entry visa for five years from Dubai.
