Kanpur: An old man was allegedly beaten to death over a land dispute in Kanpur's Dharamshala Baranda village on Sunday, police said.
Police have detained two persons for query and further investigation is underway, an official said.
According to police, the incident took place at night after a fight broke out between neighbours in the village under Bilhaur police station, Kanpur Outer.
An FIR has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, based on a complaint filed by the victim's relatives.
Policemen have also been deployed in the village to avoid further confrontation.
In their complaint, the victim's family have alleged that a group of men thrashed him with sticks, which resulted in his demise.
On receiving the information, a team of officials from Araul, Makanpur and Bilhaur police stations reached the spot.
Following a preliminary investigation, the police sent the body for autopsy.
