Lebanon Respects Security Of GCC: Minister

Bassam Mawlawi

BEIRUT, Apr 13 (NNN-NNA) – Lebanese Interior Minister, Bassam Mawlawi, called on the Lebanese, to respect the security of brotherly countries, including members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

“Saudi Arabia and the rest of the GCC countries have always supported all Lebanese equally, without discrimination,” Mawlawi said, during a meeting with the Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon, Walid al-Bukhari, in Beirut.

Lebanon is committed to preventing any verbal or practical harm to the Gulf states, he added.

“We will continue adopting this approach for the sake of our country and its stability, as well as, the stability of Arab countries, as Arab security is common among all countries in the region,” he noted.

Saudi Arabia and Kuwait announced on Thursday, the return of their ambassadors to Lebanon, after the latter’s Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, pledged to take the necessary and required measures to enhance cooperation with GCC members.

Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, all GCC members, recalled their ambassadors to Lebanon in Oct, 2021, to protest against comments made by former Lebanese Information Minister, George Kordahi, who criticised the Saudi-led coalition’s involvement in the civil war in Yemen.
