JERUSALEM, Aug 12 (NNN-PNA) – Two people were killed and six others injured, after a bus in Jerusalem, went out of control and crashed into a station, last night.
The two killed in the accident were a 30-year-old woman and a three-year-old girl, and one of the injured was in a serious condition, according to the Magen David Adom, Israel’s national emergency medical service.
Policemen, firefighters and medical staff were sent to the site of the accident, local media reported.
The long working hours of the bus driver is to blame for the accident, said Israel’s Bus Drivers’ Union, adding, the country faces a shortage of more than 5,000 drivers.
“Buses have turned into a ticking time bomb because of the growing shortage (of drivers). It is time for the heads of the Transportation Ministry to take this seriously. The drivers and passengers can no longer risk their lives,” the union said in a statement.
This is the second accident as a result of bus malfunction in Jerusalem this week. A 70-year-old man was killed and a pedestrian slightly injured, when a bus drove onto the pavement and smashed into a construction site, on Tuesday night.
