HANOI, Feb 21 (NNN-VNA) – Three people died and 17 others were injured, in a crash between a sleeper bus and a truck, in Vietnam’s central province of Quang Nam early today.

The accident took place at around 1:30 a.m. on National Highway 1A in Tam Anh Nam Commune, Nui Thanh District, Quang Nam Province, when the sleeper bus carrying 30 passengers smashed into the rear end of a brick-loaded truck that was parked on the roadside.

Among the fatalities, one person was pronounced dead at the scene, two died on the way to hospital, local traffic authorities said, adding that, the incident left 13 others in critical condition and four minorly injured. Both vehicles were seen badly wrecked.

Further investigation is underway into the cause of this fatal collision. The National Traffic Safety Committee also urged local authorities to hold an urgent meeting, to conduct a safety investigation.

The location of this accident is about three km away from the scene of another road crash last week, involving a tractor-trailer and a van, with 10 killed and many others injured.

More than 11,400 traffic accidents occurred in Vietnam last year, killing 6,384 people and injuring over 7,800, official data showed.
