India: Drain cleaning work reportedly begins by Kanpur Nigam Nigam

Kanpur: City Health Officer Dr Amit Singh said that tenders could not be held due to the code of conduct.

However, he added that the company engaged in the Municipal Corporation's panel tender has been entrusted with the task of cleaning the drains from May 4 to June 30 this year.

He made it clear that tenders could not be called due to the code of conduct. But the company has been entrusted with the task of cleaning the drains. 

The Municipal Corporation spends about Rs 7 crore every year on drain cleaning work. A sum of Rs 4.21 Cr will be spent on cleaning 264 major drains of the Nagar Nigam engineering department.

On the other hand, the health department will spend Rs 2.70 Cr on cleaning as many as 1209 small drains.

According to officials, the work of cleaning the drain has been started.

Nagar Nigam In-charge Rahman told that a total of 88 thousand manpower will be required to clean the drains of the health department.

Zone-wise manpower will be sent for cleaning the drain. The engineering department has reportedly started cleaning the major drains of Sisamau, COD Nala, Teffco Nala, and Mayor Mill.
