WASHINGTON, May 1 (Xinhua): U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he intended to nominate U.S. envoys to Colombia and the African Union.
According to a statement issued by the White House, Trump announced his intent to nominate Philip S. Goldberg to be the ambassador to Colombia, and Jessica Lapenn to be the U.S. representative to the African Union with the rank and status of ambassador.
The statement indicated that Goldberg is a career diplomat and "the Senior State Department Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy at Georgetown University."
Being fluent in Spanish, he has served as the charge d'affaires ad interim of the U.S. embassy in Havana, Cuba, the ambassador to the Philippines and the ambassador to Bolivia.
In addition, Goldberg has served in the U.S. mission in Chile and at the U.S. embassy in Bogota, Colombia.
For her part, Jessica Lapenn is also a career diplomat. She currently serves as the charge d'affaires of the U.S. embassy in South Africa, a position she has held since 2016.
Previously, Lapenn was the deputy chief of mission of the U.S. embassy in Rwanda, and served as the political advisor to the U.S. permanent representative to the United Nations.
