Egyptian, French Navies Hold Joint Exercise In Red Sea

CAIRO, Mar 15 (NNN-MENA) – Egyptian and French naval forces, held joint military training in the Red Sea, Egypt’s armed forces said, in a statement yesterday.

The Egyptian frigate, al-Fateh, and the combat group accompanying the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, participated in the exercise, according to the statement.

During the training, the forces implemented many joint combat activities, including forming close and remote guard of formations.

Presidents Of Egypt, DRC Discuss Dispute Over Ethiopia’s Nile Dam

CAIRO, Mar 12 (NNN-MENA) – Egyptian President, Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, and his counterpart of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Felix Tshisekedi, yesterday discussed over the phone, the disputed Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

During the conversation, Sisi reiterated Egypt’s position, that calls for reaching a legally binding agreement on the rules of filling and operating the GERD, before the next rainy season, in order to preserve the water rights of the downstream countries, Egyptian presidential spokesman, Bassam Rady, said, in a statement.

Garment factory fire kills at least 20 in Egypt

11 Mar 2021; MEMO: At least 20 people were killed and 24 others injured in Egypt on Thursday when a fire broke out in a garment factory north of Cairo, the local governor's office said in a statement, reports Reuters.

The fire started in a four-story factory in El-Obour City, just north of Cairo, at about 11 a.m. (0900 GMT) and was later brought under control, the statement added.

France joins east Mediterranean gas forum

11 Mar 2021; MEMO: Egypt yesterday said that France would take part in the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF), adding that the United States will join as an observer.

"The fourth ministerial periodic meeting of the EMGF has seen France become a member and the US join as an observer," Egyptian Petroleum Minister, Tarek El-Molla, told reporters.

China Provides COVID-19 Vaccines To Arab League

CAIRO, Mar 5 (NNN-XINHUA) – China provided a batch of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines to the Arab League (AL) general secretariat in Cairo, the Chinese embassy in Egypt said, in a statement.

“This is a vivid interpretation of the China-Arab community of health and wellness, and it marks another solid step towards building a China-Arab community with a shared future,” Chinese Ambassador to Egypt, Liao Liqiang, was quoted as saying, in the statement.

Egypt's petroleum subsidies down 45%

05 Mar 2021; MEMO: Egyptian subsidies on petroleum products dropped by about 45 per cent in the first half of the current financial year 2020-21, the petroleum minister announced yesterday.

Tarek El-Molla said that the petroleum subsidies had fallen to 8.4 billion Egyptian pounds ($537.8 million) in the first half of the current financial year, compared to 15.25 billion Egyptian pounds ($971.7 million) last financial year.

Egyptian, Qatari FMs Meet In Cairo For First Time After A Three-Year Rift

CAIRO, Mar 4 (NNN-MENA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, and his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, held their first meeting, after the two countries signed a reconciliation agreement in Jan, to end a three-year rift.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 155th ordinary session of the Arab League Council, at the level of foreign ministers, which kicked off yesterday, in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
