Turkey Vaccinates More Than Two Million Citizens

CAIRO, Feb 2 (NNN-MENA) – The number of Turks that received the first dose of the Chinese COVID-19 vaccine, exceeded 2,137,000 yesterday. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority decided to extend the state of emergency for 30 days, to curb the spread of the virus.

Turkey started mass vaccination of health workers on Jan 14, after authorities approved the use of the Chinese CoronaVac vaccine.

Egypt invites Hamas and other factions for talks in Cairo

02 Feb 2021; MEMO: The Palestinian factions, including Hamas, have been invited for talks in Cairo on reconciliation as well as the recently announced elections. The details were announced on Monday by Taher Al-Nunu, the media advisor of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

"We will visit Cairo on 7 February," explained Al-Nunu. "The Hamas leadership has assigned deputy leader Saleh Al-Arouri to lead the movement's delegation."

Egypt imposes curfew ahead of revolution anniversary

26 Jan 2021; MEMO: Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Saturday issued a ministerial order imposing a partial curfew in some areas in the north of the Sinai Peninsula.

"A curfew will be imposed across the border district of Tal Rafah, and in Al-Arish city, starting from the western district of Al-Awja to Jabal Al-Halal in the west, moving forward to the Rafah borderline," the order read, according to official Al-Ahram.

Arab League welcomes Libyan parties' agreement on unifying institutions, sovereign positions

CAIRO, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Arab League (AL) welcomed on Sunday the understandings reached by the two parties of the conflict in Libya on unifying national institutions and sovereign positions.

Two delegations from the High Council of State of Libya and the Libyan House of Representatives concluded on Saturday two-day talks in the Moroccan city Bouznika, agreeing to form small working groups to take procedural steps concerning the occupants of the positions of sovereignty.

Egypt starts vaccinating medics with Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine

ISMAILIA, Egypt, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Egypt started on Sunday vaccinating medical staff with Chinese Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine at a hospital in the northeastern province of Ismailia, according to a vaccination program by the Egyptian Health Ministry.

"Today, I announce launching the national campaign of COVID-19 vaccination from Abu Khalifa Hospital, starting with the medical staff," Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed told a news conference at Abu Khalifa Emergency Hospital in Ismailia.

Egypt security arrest chef for 'immoral' penis-shaped birthday cakes

19 Jan 2021; MEMO: Egyptian security services have arrested a chef who made cakes in the shape of male and female private parts for a birthday party at Al-Jazirah Club.

The news has sparked controversy in the state-run press, who have quoted other members of the club complaining that the people who participated in the party, and the organiser, should be investigated.

One source in the security forces said that it was "incitement to immorality."

Egyptian defense minister, Greek chief of staff discuss military ties

CAIRO, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki and the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff Konstantinos Floros discussed on Monday strengthening military cooperation between Cairo and Athens.

During a meeting in Cairo, the two officials discussed a number of issues of common interest in light of the current regional and international developments and their repercussions on the security and stability in the Middle East, according to a statement from the Egyptian Armed Forces.
