Egyptian President Pledges Support For Afcfta’s Activities

CAIRO, Jan 18 (NNN-MENA) – Egyptian President, Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, reiterated his country’s support for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which commenced earlier this month.

Sisi’s remarks came, during his meeting in Cairo with Wamkele Mene, secretary general of AfCFTA, Egyptian Presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said.

Sisi affirmed Egypt’s full support for the activities and work of AfCFTA, which represents a promising start towards continental integration in Africa.

Death toll from violence in Sudan’s West Darfur rises to 83

CAIRO (AP) — The death toll from tribal violence between Arabs and non-Arabs in Sudan’s West Darfur province climbed to at least 83, including women and children, a doctor’s union and aid worker said, as sporadic violence continued Sunday.

The ruling sovereign council met Sunday and said security forces would be deployed to the area.

Iran to provide COVID-19 vaccines in March; over 675,000 health workers in Turkey receive Chinese vaccine

CAIRO, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani Saturday said the country will start vaccination in March. Meanwhile, more than 675,000 health workers in Turkey have received COVID-19 vaccine developed by China's Sinovac.

Addressing a national committee meeting on fighting COVID-19, Rouhani said Iran will begin mass vaccination by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2021).

Egypt minister: 'We need $1.78 bn to provide coronavirus vaccine'

16 Jan 2021; MEMO: Egyptian Finance Minister Mohamed Maait announced that his country needs more than 20 billion Egyptian pounds to provide the coronavirus vaccine to 100 million citizens.

"We have a contract with the Global Vaccine Alliance to get 20 million doses. We have also submitted a request to obtain the Oxford University vaccine, and we expect to get 30 million doses," Maait added.

Egypt signs $1.1bn agreement with International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation

14 Jan 2021; MEMO: Egypt has signed an agreement with the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC) to finance the country's petroleum imports, the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum announced on Tuesday.

"The loan agreement is valued at $1.1 billion," the ministry confirmed in an official statement, adding that the fund was allocated: "To fund the country's petroleum and basic goods imports for 2021."

Egypt: Senior health ministry official dies from coronavirus

11 Jan 2021; MEMO: Undersecretary of Egypt's Ministry of Health in Qalyubia Governorate has died from coronavirus two weeks after he contracted the virus.

Hamdy El-Tabbakh died on Saturday evening at Agouza Hospital.

Egypt's Health Minister Hala Zayed praised El-Tabbakh as a loyal leader who served the country with sincerity and dedication.

Egypt's health minister admits to oxygen crisis in hospitals

05 Jan 2021; MEMO: Egypt's Health Minister Hala Zayed has admitted that there is an oxygen crisis in hospitals following a tsunami of criticism on social media after an entire ICU ward died due to lack of oxygen.

For the past several days footage of the ward at El Husseineya Central Hospital in Ash Sharqia province has circulated online.
