Iran student leader says he regrets 1979 US Embassy attack

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — His revolutionary fervor diminished by the years that have also turned his dark brown hair white, one of the Iranian student leaders of the 1979 U.S. Embassy takeover says he now regrets the seizure of the diplomatic compound and the 444-day hostage crisis that followed.

Speaking to The Associated Press ahead of Monday’s 40th anniversary of the attack, Ebrahim Asgharzadeh acknowledged that the repercussions of the crisis still reverberate as tensions remain high between the U.S. and Iran over Tehran’s collapsing nuclear deal with world powers.

Iran’s Khamenei blames US, Israel for chaos in Iraq, Lebanon

31 Oct 2019; MEMO: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei yesterday blamed the US and Israel for  the turmoil in Iraq and Lebanon, urging protesters in both countries to lawfully seek their rights.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony at Iran’s Khatam Al-Anbia Air Defence University, he accused the US and Western intelligence services of inflicting damage and of creating “chaos” in the region, Al Jazeera reported.

Frozen in time, US Embassy a monument to Iran hostage crisis

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — The U.S. Embassy in Tehran remains frozen in 1979 as the 40th anniversary of the Iran hostage crisis approaches, a time capsule of revolutionary graffiti, Underwood typewriters and rotary telephones.

The diplomatic compound was overrun by students angered when Washington allowed ousted Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi into the U.S. for medical treatment. What initially began as a sit-in devolved into 444 days of captivity for 52 Americans seized in the embassy.

Iran's FM, Yemeni Houthi official meet in Tehran

TEHRAN, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the Spokesman of Yemen's Houthi movement Mohammad Abdul-Salam met in Tehran on Saturday.

Both sides held talks on a range of issues, including the latest efforts to end conflicts between Saudi-led coalition and the Houthi movement.

Zarif expressed "deep sorrow" over the suffering of the Yemeni people and the blockade on the country during the talks.

He further urged an immediate strike on Yemen and removal of the siege on the country by the Saudi-led coalition.

Iran: Europeans must act fast or we will move away from nuclear deal

Zarif’s remarks came on the sidelines of the international conference on “Unilateralism and International Law” in Tehran.

Iran Ready To Settle Tensions With Saudi Arabia

TEHRAN, Oct 22 (NNN-IRNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, said, he is ready to travel to Saudi Arabia to discuss resolution of tensions.

“If condition is provided, I would be ready to travel to Riyadh, to settle differences” between the two countries, Zarif was quoted as saying by Press TV.

“Tehran welcomes any initiative seeking to ease tensions in the region, and it will cooperate (with other states) to end Yemen’s war,” he noted.

Iran believes end of the war in Yemen will primarily help the Yemeni people, the Iranian minister said.

Iran ready for further cut of nuke commitments: spokesman

TEHRAN, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry on Monday announced the country's readiness for further cut of its commitments under the 2015 Iranian nuclear agreement.

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi said that "we hope parties to the nuclear deal take special measures (to protect Iran's interests) pertaining to the deal, otherwise, we are ready to take the fourth step" to cut Iran's nuclear commitments.

Iran vows further cut of nuke commitments if parties fail to secure interests

TEHRAN, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Iran will reduce more of its nuclear commitments if the remaining parties to the Iranian nuclear deal fail to help the country reap economic benefits of the accord.

Iranian President's Chief of Staff Mahmoud Vaezi made the remarks on Thursday, according to official IRNA news agency.

Iran Vows Harsh Response To Oil Tanker Attackers

TEHRAN, Oct 17 (NNN-IRNA) – The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said on Wednesday that, Iran will give a harsh response to those behind a recent attack on an Iranian tanker, in the Red Sea, state TV reported.

The elements behind the attack on Iran’s SABITI oil tanker were seeking to create tensions in the region, Ali Shamkhani said, during his meeting with Alexander Lavrentiev, Russian president’s special envoy to Syria.

“Iran’s response would make them regret their action,” Shamkhani added.
