Container homes from Qatar being set up for quake victims in hard-hit Turkiye province

23 Mar 2023; MEMO: Container homes from Qatar are being set up for the afflicted in Turkiye's Adiyaman province that was hit hard by the 6 February twin earthquakes, Anadolu News Agency reports.

According to sources, officials in Adiyaman have been handed over 1,000 living containers, and as many as 600 of them have, so far, been placed near the city's main bus terminal.

Turks want to ban foreigners from buying homes

22 Mar 2023; MEMO: Turks overwhelmingly favour a ban on home sales to foreigners, a view that straddles the country's political divide and echoes the backlash against a deluge of buyers in countries from Canada to Portugal, Bloomberg reports.

According to the report, about 79 per cent of Turkish citizens think home sales to foreign nationals should be banned, according to a survey by Metropoll.

Turkiye president to break fast with earthquake survivors

23 Mar 2023; MEMO: In a sign of solidarity, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will today break his fast with the survivors of the double earthquakes that devastated the country in February.

Erdogan will visit the governorate of Kahramanmaras, the epicentre of the devastating earthquakes, to inspect the progress of the reconstruction process there, according to the Anadolu Agency.

Erdogan urges Israel to heed Al-Aqsa status in Ramadan in call to Herzog

21 Mar 2023; MEMO: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan talked with his Israeli counterpart, Isaac Herzog, on the phone on Monday evening about the Al Aqsa status, Turkish media outlets reported Tuesday.

According to the report, the two leaders exchanged greetings on the upcoming Islamic holy month of Ramadan and Israel's Passover. Erdogan stressed the importance of prevention of "provocation and threats towards Al-Aqsa mosque", especially during Ramadan.

Russian investors flocked to Turkiye in 2022 following Western sanctions

22 Mar 2023; MEMO: Russian investors established more than 1,300 companies in Turkiye in 2022, a significant increase from the previous year, a new report has revealed.

Issued by the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkiye (TEPAV) the report indicated that the increase in Russian companies was a 670 per cent increase compared to 2021.

Turkiye plans to ratify Finland's NATO bid ahead of May polls

14 Mar 2023; MEMO: Russia's diesel and gasoil shipments to Turkiye hit a record high in February, as traders rerouted cargoes after a European Union ban on Russian oil products, Refinitiv data reports.

According to the report, February diesel and gasoil exports to Turkiye could reach a record high of 1 million tons.

Turkiye's presidential candidate pledges to expel Syria refugees

15 Mar 2023; MEMO: Kemal Kilicdaroglu, Turkiye's opposition candidate for the presidency, yesterday pledged to expel Syrian refugee from the country should he became president, RT Arabic reported.

Kilicdaroglu, the candidate of the opposition Nation Alliance, gave these remarks during a press conference held at the Turkish-Syrian borders.

He stressed that the Syrian refugees in Turkiye would be returned to their country within two years after he becomes president.
