Banihal/Jammu, Apr 7 (PTI) A 23-year-old deaf and mute woman was allegedly raped and impregnated by an elderly man in a remote village in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, following which he was arrested, police said on Tuesday.

According to a police official, the case came to light when the woman's father lodged a complaint accusing the elderly man of raping his daughter.

Medical examination of the girl was conducted and she was found four-month pregnant, the official said, adding the accused has been arrested and further probe was on.

Kulgam, April 4: Two Kashmiri separatist were killed in an alleged encounter with Indian security forces Kulgam area of Anantnag district of Indian administered Kashmir, police said.

New Delhi, Apr 3 (PTI) Three New judges were appointed to the common high court of the Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh on Friday, the law ministry said.

The ministry issued a notification announcing the appointment of justices Vinod Chatterji Koul, Sanjay Dhar and Puneet Gupta.

With the new appointments, the judges' strength of the high court has gone up to 12 as against the sanctioned strength of 17.

Jammu, Mar 30 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir administration constituted various coordination teams on Monday to ensure movement of essential goods and services, and address difficulties amid the lockdown over the novel coronavirus pandemic.

According to the order, the Health and Medical Education financial commissioner Atal Dulloo will be the incharge of the coordination.

Srinagar, Mar 25 (PTI) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday strongly condemned the attack on a gurdwara in Afghanistan, describing it a cowardly and an inhuman act.

In a statement here, PDP spokesman Harbaksh Singh expressed pain and anguish over the attack carried out on the Sikh temple in Kabul earlier in the day.

Srinagar, Mar 24 (PTI) Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah's eight-month detention ended on Tuesday after the administration revoked the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) against him.

The National Conference leader, who turned 50 on March 10, has been under detention since August 5, when the Centre announced the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status under Article 370 and its bifurcation into the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Srinagar, Mar 21 (PTI) Strict restrictions on movement and assembly of people continued for the third consecutive day on Saturday in Kashmir to contain the spread of the new coronavirus that has infected one person in the valley, officials said.

They said adequate security forces have been deployed and barricades have been put up at several places in Srinagar. Only government and essential services employees with valid identity cards, mediapersons, and people with health emergency were allowed to move on streets, they added.

Jammu, Mar 18 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Wednesday accorded sanction to rolling out the J&K Health Scheme to provide free of cost Universal Health Coverage to all residents of the Union Territory in convergence with Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY.

The decision was taken by the administrative council which met under the chairmanship of Lt Governor G C Murmu here, an official spokesperson said.

Srinagar, Mar 18 (PTI) The Kashmir Valley on Wednesday recorded its first positive case for novel coronavirus in Srinagar, mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation Junaid Azim Mattu said.

"I have been informed a short while ago that #Srinagar has had its first positive case for #Covid2019. It's a congested area in the city interiors. We have to be transparent to convey the gravity of the challenge and also seek serious measures and responsible behavior," Mattu said in a series of tweets.

Srinagar, Mar 17 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday barred foreign tourists from entering the Union Territory as a precautionary measure in view of coronavirus outbreak.

"Advisor to the Lt. Governor Baseer Ahmad Khan has issued necessary orders in this regard. Secretary Tourism, Director Tourism and DCs have been asked to ensure implementation of the order with immediate effect," an official spokesman said.
