Pakistan study blames HIV outbreak in kids on bad healthcare

ISLAMABAD (AP) — A group of Pakistani doctors blames a recent outbreak of HIV among children in a southern city on poor healthcare practices such as using dirty needles and contaminated blood, according to a statement released Friday.

The doctors are also urging Pakistan’s government to do more to understand how the virus went from high-risk groups such as drug users and sex workers to the general population. They also warned that there isn’t enough medication in the city of Ratodero, in southern Sindh province, where 591 children need medical treatment.

Pakistan finds fault with death sentence for Musharraf who plans to appeal

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - The Pakistan government has found fault with a special court’s death sentence for former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, apparently taking sides in a split between the military and the judiciary, and the general’s lawyers said he plans to appeal.

Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan said the government’s legal team had found “gaps and weaknesses” in the ruling after lawyers briefed Prime Minister Imran Khan about the case late on Wednesday.

Pakistan’s Musharraf Sentenced To Death

ISLAMABAD, Dec 18 (NNN-APP) – A special court in Pakistan, handed the death sentence to former President, Pervez Musharraf, on charges relating to the imposition of extra-constitutional emergency in Nov, 2007, according to local media reports.

A three-member bench of the special court delivered a short verdict in the case, in the absence of Musharraf, finding him guilty of abrogation of the constitution, under article 6 of Pakistan’s constitution among others, local media reported, adding that, two judges were in favour of the death sentence, while one was against it.

Pakistan court sentences former military ruler Musharraf to death for treason

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - A Pakistani court sentenced on Tuesday former military ruler Pervez Musharraf to death on charges of high treason and subverting the constitution, government officials said.

Musharraf, who seized power in a 1999 coup and later ruled as president, is not in Pakistan and was not available for comment on the sentence, handed down by an anti-terrorism court hearing the high treason case.

“Pervez Musharraf has been found guilty of Article 6 for violation of the constitution of Pakistan,” government law officer Salman Nadeem said.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Switzerland were co-hosting the GRF.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, along with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and leaders from Costa Rica, Ethiopia and Germany, have been invited to co-convene the Forum in recognition of their exemplary role for the protection and well-being of refugees, a Foreign Office statement issued here on Monday said.

PAK: President pledges to root out terrorism, extremism from country

ISLAMABAD, Dec 16 (APP): President Dr. Arif Alvi on Monday reiterated the pledge to root out terrorism and extremism in all its forms and manifestations from the country.
