India: Legendary Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar on oxygen support, stable

Mumbai, Jun 7 (PTI) Legendary actor Dilip Kumar, who was admitted to a hospital here after experiencing episodes of breathlessness, is currently on oxygen support and stable, his family shared in an update from the veteran's official Twitter handle.

Kumar, 98, was taken to the suburban Khar-based Hinduja Hospital, a non-COVID-19 facility, on Sunday, where he was diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusion, which is the build-up of excess fluid between the layers of the pleura outside the lungs.

India: RBI keeps interest rate unchanged; to maintain accommodative stance

Mumbai, Jun 4 (PTI) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday left key interest rates unchanged at record lows as it reiterated its commitment to keep its monetary policy accommodative, to help the economy recover from the world's worst outbreak of COVID-19 infections.

It also lowered its forecast for the country's economic growth to 9.5 per cent for the current financial year ending March 31, 2022, from the previous estimate of 10.5 per cent.

India: Captain of sunken barge P-305 still remains untraced

Mumbai, Jun 1 (PTI) The captain of the sunken barge P-305 still remains untraced, a fortnight after the tragedy that unfolded off the Mumbai coast during cyclone Tauktae, an official said on Tuesday.

Captain Rakesh Ballav of the barge P-305 is missing since his ill-fated boat sank in the Arabian Sea on May 16 when the powerful storm passed over the Mumbai coast, he said.

India: TV actor Karan Mehra held for beating up wife in Mumbai

Mumbai, Jun 1 (PTI) Popular television actor Karan Mehra was arrested for allegedly beating up his wife at their residence in Mumbai, a police official said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday night following which the actor was taken into custody. He was released on bail from the police station in the early hours of Tuesday, the official said.

The Goregaon police received a call from their control room about the incidentaround 11 pm on Monday, he said.

The police went to the actor's house and brought him to the police station.

India: Petrol price crosses Rs 100 a litre in Mumbai

New Delhi, May 29 (PTI) Petrol price on Saturday crossed the Rs 100-a-litre mark in Mumbai after the 15th increase in fuel prices this month.

Petrol price was increased by 26 paise per litre and diesel by 28 paise a litre, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

The increase - 15th this month - took petrol and diesel prices to a fresh all-time high across the country.

India: Jointness of three armed forces important amid changing nature of war: Navy chief

Pune, May 29 (PTI) Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh on Saturday called for the "jointness" of three defence forces, saying that it is far more important in today's changing nature of war than it was in the past.

He was speaking at the National Defence Academy (NDA) at Khadakwasla here in the morning, after reviewing the Passing Out Parade of 140th course of the academy.

India: RBI flags risk of bubble in Indian equity markets

New Delhi, May 27 (PTI) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday said the sharp rally in the domestic equity markets despite an estimated 8 per cent contraction in GDP in 2020-21 poses the "risk of a bubble".

In its annual report for 2020-21, RBI noted that India's equity prices have surged to record highs, with the benchmark index Sensex crossing the 50,000 mark on January 21, 2021 to touch a peak of 52,154 on February 15.

India: Toolkit used by BJP to target opponents: Raut

Mumbai, May 25 (PTI) Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Tuesday alleged that social media or 'toolkits' were used by the BJP to target opponents, adding that when it faced a backlash, it put pressure through various ways.

Raut made the comments while talking to reporters here in connection with a notice sent by the Delhi Police to Twitter India over the probe into a complaint about an alleged 'COVID toolkit'.

India: All missing on board barge P305 accounted for, death toll rises to 86

Mumbai, May 24 (PTI) All the 274 personnel who were on board barge P305 that sank and tugboat Varaprada that went adrift during Cyclone Tauktae fury have been accounted for with the recovery of 16 bodies along Maharashtra and Gujarat coasts, the Navy said on Monday.

India: 3 jumbo COVID-19 centres in Mumbai stop new admissions

Mumbai, May 24 (PTI) The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has stopped new admissions of COVID-19 patients at three jumbo facilities in the city till June 1 due to pre-monsoon repair work, the BMC said on Monday.

Most of the patients from these facilities, located at the Bandra-Kurla Complex, Dahisar and Mulund, were shifted to other hospitals before cyclone Tauktae, Dr Rajesh Dere, dean of the jumbo COVID-19 centre at the BKC, said.
