UN finds 'credible evidence' linking Saudi crown prince to Khashoggi murder

19 June 2019; DW: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman should be investigated over the the alleged murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

That is the conclusion of Agnes Callamard, the UN's Special Rapporteur on Extra-Judicial Executions, who on Wednesday issued her report on the killing. 

Callamard cited "credible evidence" that high-level Saudi officials were implicated in the "premeditaed" murder.

Record 70.8 million people displaced at end of 2018: UN

Geneva, Jun 19 (AFP) More than 70 million people were counted last year as displaced from their homes, a record that underestimates the real number of refugees and asylum seekers, the UN said Wednesday.

In its annual global trends report, the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) described the figure of 70.8 million at the end of 2018 as "conservative", particularly because the number of people who fled Venezuela's devastating crisis is undercounted.

India: Mizoram police rescues 8 minor Rohingya girls

Aizawl, Jun 18 (PTI) Eight Rohingya girls, suspected to be victims of human trafficking, were rescued from a village near the Mizoram-Myanmar border in Champai district, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police of Northern Range Lalbiakthanga Khiangte said here Tuesday.

The girls, all of them minors, were rescued from Dungtkang village on Monday, the DIG said, adding that they were being taken to Myanmar from Bangladesh via India. Khiangte told PTI that the girls were produced before the chief judicial magistrate on Tuesday.

Prosecutor: Navy SEAL bragged about killing captive in Iraq

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A decorated Navy SEAL stabbed to death a wounded and captive teenage Islamic State fighter in Iraq and then bragged about it, a military prosecutor told jurors Tuesday during opening statements in a politically charged court-martial.

Lt. Brian John projected photos of the dead prisoner in the military courtroom, along with a text message Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher sent to friends with the image.

“Good story behind this,” Gallagher wrote. “Got him with my hunting knife.”

Israel SC backs demolition of 13 PA buildings in occupied West Bank

18 June 2019; MEMO: Israel’s Supreme Court yesterday gave the green light for the state to demolish 13 apartment blocks built in “Area A” of the occupied West Bank, but which now lie inside the route of the illegal Separation Wall.

According to Haaretz, Palestinians say that the ruling “sets a precedent that will enable the demolition of thousands of buildings in the West Bank”.

Israel minister’s draft bill: 3 years jailtime for supporting PA activity in Jerusalem

18 June 2019; MEMO: Israel’s Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan has “proposed a new bill that would impose a maximum sentence of up to three years in prison for those who sponsor, finance, support or organise activities for the Palestinian Authority (PA)” in occupied East Jerusalem, reported Asharq Al-Awsat.

Germany mulls requests to host Sea-Watch migrants

18 June 2019; DW: The German Interior Ministry has confirmed that it received formal requests from more than 50 municipalities to host migrants rescued in the Mediterranean by German NGO Sea-Watch, DPA news agency reported on Tuesday.

Around 60 cities and towns across Germany on Friday offered to host 53 migrants who were rescued off the coast of Libya last week. They announced an alliance called "Safe Havens" to coordinate their efforts.

2 Kashmiri killed by Indian security forces in Anantnag district of Indian administered Kashmir

Anantnag, Jun 18: 2 Kashmiris have been killed in an alleged a gun battle with Indian security forces in Anantnag district of Indian administered Kashmir on Tuesday, Indian police said. An Indian security forces’ soldier was also killed.

Egypt's ousted president Mohammed Morsi dies during trial

Egypt's former President Mohammed Morsi collapsed moments after addressing the court in Cairo, officials said. Morsi, who was 67, had been in custody since his removal after mass protests.

Morsi spoke for about five minutes from a soundproof glass cage at a hearing on charges of espionage when he collapsed. He was pronounced dead in hospital at 16:50 local time. State TV said the cause of death was a heart attack.
