Diplomats recommit to saving Iran deal, oppose US sanctions

VIENNA (AP) — Diplomats from Iran and five world powers recommitted Sunday to salvaging a major nuclear deal amid mounting tensions between the West and Tehran since the U.S. withdrew from the accord and reimposed sanctions.

Representatives of Iran, Germany, France, Britain, China, Russia and the European Union met in Vienna to discuss the 2015 agreement that restricts the Iranian nuclear program.

“The atmosphere was constructive, and the discussions were good,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi told reporters after the meeting ended.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry issues protest over Medvedev’s trip to Crimea

KIEV, July 28. /TASS/: The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has voiced protest in connection with the trip to Crimea of a Russian delegation led by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, the ministry’s press service said on Sunday.

"The trip comes in defiance of repeated warnings from Ukraine," it said. Earlier on Sunday, the prime minister arrived in Sevastopol to attend festivities marking Russia’s Navy Day.

France’s Macron to welcome Russia’s Putin for talks before G7 summit

PARIS, July 28 (NNN-AGENCIES) – French President Emmanuel Macron said he will host his Russian counterpart Vladmir Putin for talks at the Bregancon fort off the Mediterranean coast on August 19, just days before a summit of the G7 leaders of industrialized nations.

Macron, who arrived this week for his summer vacation at the medieval French fort on an islet near Bormes-les-Mimosas, announced Putin’s visit to reporters during a visit to the local town on Saturday evening, French news agency AFP reported.

Russian submarine, missile ships take part in naval parade in Syrian Tartus

MOSCOW, July 28./TASS/: A Russian submarine and missile ships took part in a naval parade marking Russia’s Navy Day in the Syrian port of Tartus on Sunday, the Defense Ministry’s press service said in a report.

"The diesel-electric submarine Stary Oskol, the Admiral Grigorovich frigate, the Pytlivyi patrol ship, the Velikiy Ustyug and Uglich small missile ships" took part in the parade along with other vessels, the press service said.

Preliminary consultations on Iran nuclear deal start in Vienna - Russian mission

VIENNA, July 28./TASS/: Preliminary consultations of participants in a session of the JCPOA Joint Commission have started in Vienna, Russia’s Permanent Mission to the International Organizations in Vienna said in a tweet on Sunday.

"The Russian delegation is led by Deputy [Foreign Minister] Sergey Ryabkov", it said.

A session of the Joint Commission at the level of political directors will be held in Vienna on Sunday. Prior to the previous meeting, the Russian side had held consultations with representatives from the European foreign policy service, China and Iran.

Russian Navy can fight back any aggressor, says Putin

"Our Navy ensures security of the country, its national interests and can properly repulse any aggressor," the president said.

Germany: Dozens treated after fire near North Sea coast campsite

Around 300 residents of a North Sea coast campsite were evacuated on Saturday after smoke from a massive nearby fire engulfed the holiday resort.
