Israel reports first known COVID death from Omicron variant

21 Dec 2021; MEMO: Israel recorded its first known death from the Omicron variant of COVID-19, according to Israeli news media which reported that an elderly man died in Beersheba on Monday, reports Reuters.

The patient died at Soroka Medical Center and had pre-existing conditions, according to the Times of Israel and Ynet news reports on Tuesday.

The two new agencies both said he was over 60 and had received two vaccine doses but not a third booster shot.

India: Delhi Government ready for Omicron variant: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Dec 18(PTI) Delhi government is ready to tackle the Omicron variant of COVID, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday.

He advised people not to panic saying even though the variant was said to spread faster than the previous ones, its symptoms were mild.

He said Delhi might not face another wave of infections, since according to the sero survey conducted by the Delhi government, 96 per cent of the state population was found to have antibodies and a majority of them were vaccinated.

India's Omicron count rises to 145

New Delhi/Mumbai, Dec 19 (PTI) India's Omicron COVID count rose to 145 on Sunday after a 45-year-old NRI and a teenage boy, who recently arrived in Gujarat from the United Kingdom, tested positive for the variant.

According to central and state officials, omicron cases have been detected in 11 states and union territories -- Maharashtra (48), Delhi (22), Rajasthan (17) and Karnataka (14), Telangana (20), Gujarat (9), Kerala (11), Andhra Pradesh (1), Chandigarh (1), Tamil Nadu (1) and West Bengal (1).

India: Colder weather increasing number of heart patients in Kanpur

Kanpur: Continued increase in the cold condition for the past several days has brought trouble for the heart patients. 

According to the doctors, two heart patients have died at Hallett Hospital on Friday here. They were admitted at the Cardiology in the hospital.

The doctors have accepted that the number of patients suffering with heart and brain problems added up due to the rise in the low temperature these days.

Patients of brain stroke and heart stroke are admitted to Cardiology. Prof Richa Giri told that the number of patients rose because of colder weather.

India: Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan, Amrita Arora Covid +ve

Mumbai, Dec 13 (PTI) Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan on Monday said she has tested positive for COVID-19, after sources in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said both she and her actor-friend Amrita Arora had contracted the virus.

Kareena confirmed her diagnosis on her Instagram Story, adding that she hopes to be "up and about soon".

"I have tested positive for Covid. I immediately isolated myself while following all medical protocols. I request anyone who has come in contact with me to please get tested," she said in a statement.

India: Several turn up to take first dose of vaccination at Jajmau camp

Kanpur: Those, who had not got the extended opportunity to get vaccinated even the first important dose, reached the not so crowded vaccination camp held at Jajmau here on Thursday. 

Even the health workers did not realise the noisy scene at the spot. They were engaged in filling the details online and injecting the dose to the person after filling up the form. It was later handed over to the person who was benefitted from the first dose.

They were undoubtedly kind to the persons arriving at their desk. If anyone was feeling a kind of anxiety they asked them to relax.

India: New guidelines for people visiting Meghalaya due to Omicron variant

Shillong, Dec 8 (PTI) Meghalaya government has issued new guidelines making it mandatory for people entering the state to register with the government website and download the Arogya Setu App and the Behavioural Change Management App, an official said.

The new guidelines were issued after the Omicron variant of COVID-19 was detected in some states, the official said on Tuesday.

US makes it mandatory for incoming passengers to carry -ve COVID-19 report

Washington, Dec 5 (PTI) The US has made it mandatory for all incoming passengers, including those from India, to carry a negative COVID-19 test report or a proof of recovery from the contagion amidst rising number of cases of the new Omicron variant.

The new protocol comes into effect from December 6, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has said.

India: COVID-19 vaccination now compulsory in Puducherry

Puducherry, Dec 5 (PTI) The Union Territory of Puducherry has made it mandatory for all persons to get the COVID-19 vaccine with an aim to achieve cent per cent coverage and said those skipping it would face penal action under law.

The Director of Health and Family Welfare Services G.Sriramulu stated this in an order on Saturday night and said it woud come into immediate effect.

The government has invoked the provisions of the Puducherry Public Health Act 1973 to implement compulsory vaccination.

Delhi reports first case of Omicron variant

New Delhi, Dec 5 (PTI) A 37-year-old man who arrived in Delhi from Tanzania has tested positive for Omicron, making it the first case of the new COVID-19 variant in the national capital and the fifth in the country.

The patient, currently admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital, has mild symptoms, hospital officials said.
