India: 11,502 more COVID-19 cases, 325 deaths

New Delhi, Jun 15 (PTI) India saw a jump of over 11,000 novel coronavirus cases for the third consecutive day on Monday, taking the total number of infections to over 3.32 lakh, while the toll rose to 9,520 with 325 more deaths, the Health Ministry said.

There are 1,53,106 active cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), while 1,69,797 people have recovered and a patient has migrated, according to the ministry data updated in the morning.

Therefore, 51.07 per cent of the patients have recovered so far, an official said.

India: MP Guv Lalji Tandon still in ICU

Lucknow, Jun 15 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon continues to be in the ICU of a private hospital here, officials said on Monday.

"He is undergoing intensive treatment," Medanta Hospital Director Dr Rakesh Kapoor told PTI.

Tandon, 85, was admitted to the hospital on the morning of June 11 with breathing problems, difficulty in urination and fever.

On Sunday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the hospital and enquired about his health.

Indian Rupee settles 19 paise lower at 76.03 against US dollar

Mumbai, Jun 15 (PTI) The rupee depreciated 19 paise and closed below the 76 per dollar mark on Monday as weak domestic equities and sustained foreign fund outflows weighed on investor sentiment.

Forex traders said risk appetite has waned amid fresh cases of COVID-19 globally.

The rupee opened weak at 75.93 at the interbank forex market. It fell further and finally settled for the day at 76.03 against the US dollar, down 19 paise over its last close.

It had settled at 75.84 against the US dollar on Friday.

India: No plan for another lockdown in Delhi: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Jun 15 (PTI) Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Monday that there was no plan for another lockdown in Delhi even as the number of novel coronavirus cases continue to spurt.

"Many people are speculating whether another lockdown in Delhi in being planned. There are no such plans," Kejriwal tweeted.

It comes a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah held meetings with Kejriwal, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and three mayors to discuss the strategy to deal with the COVID-19 situation.

Nepal Extends Flight Suspension Till July 5

KATHMANDU, June 15 (NNN-NEPALNEWS) – The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), issued a statement on Sunday, saying, the suspension period of all domestic and international commercial passenger flights has been extended till July 5.

“Special permission from CAAN is required for repatriation flights, rescue flights, freighter flights and flights related to medical and other essential supplies,” the statement read.

All the flights, except special charter flights, have been suspended in the Nepali sky, since the lock-down in the country on Mar 24.

Chilean Health Minister Resigns Amid Pandemic

SANTIAGO, June 14 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – Chilean President, Sebastian Pinera, accepted on Saturday, the resignation of Health Minister, Jaime Manalich, amid criticism from civil organisations and opposition figures, for his management of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

The president said, “Dr. Jaime Manalich gave all his effort and put off all his legitimate personal interests to concentrate all his time and energy to give the best of himself in the difficult and noble task of protecting our lives and our health.”

Chinese Medical Expert Team Visits COVID-19 Epicentre In Palestine

RAMALLAH, June 14 (NNN-WAFA) – A Chinese medical team on Saturday visited the West Bank city of Bethlehem, the epicentre of COVID-19 in the Palestinian territories.

The team met with Kamel Hmeid, governor of Bethlehem, at the governorate headquarters, where they were briefed on the overall management of the crisis and how the highly touristic district dealt with the outbreak of the pandemic.

Hmeid explained that the Bethlehem district managed to move promptly right after the first cases of COVID-19 were discovered.

Brazil: COVID-19 Caseload Tops 850,000

RIO DE JANEIRO, June 14 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – Brazil has so far reported 850,514 COVID-19 cases with 42,720 deaths, the country’s health ministry reported on Saturday.

In the last 24 hours, the country registered 892 new deaths from the virus with 21,704 new cases, according to the health ministry.

Sao Paulo, the epicentre of the virus and the country’s most populous state, registered 172,875 cases and 10,581 deaths, followed by Rio de Janeiro with 78,836 cases and 7,592 deaths, and Ceara with 76,429 cases and 4,829 deaths.
