Iran: Koran burners should be handed over for prosecution, Iran's Khamenei says

July 22 (Reuters) - Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Saturday that persons desecrating the Koran should face the "most severe punishment" and demanded Sweden hand them over for prosecution in Islamic countries, Iran's state media reported.

"All Islamic scholars agree that those who desecrate the Koran deserved the most severe punishment... The duty of that (Swedish) government is to hand over the perpetrator to the judicial systems of Islamic countries," Khamenei said in a statement carried by state media.

Iran says to ensure "maximum security" for Azerbaijani embassy after armed attack

TEHRAN, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said on Monday his country will ensure "maximum security" for Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran.

He made the remarks at a weekly press conference in Tehran, commenting on a January deadly attack on Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran, after which Baku decided to shut down the mission, according to a statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Kanaani said Iran is well aware of its responsibility of ensuring the security of diplomatic missions on its soil and will act responsibly in this regard.

Iran comdemns E3 group for "failing to fulfill" JCPOA commitments

Militants in southeast Iran attack a police station and kill 2 security forces, state TV says

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Four militants attacked a police station in southeastern Iran and killed two security forces, state TV reported Saturday.

The assault took place in Zahedan, a city in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchistan province, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the border with Pakistan. It triggered a shootout that left two security forces were killed, the report said.

Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard said in a statement that the four militants were killed.

Iran hails its admission to SCO as "positive development"

TEHRAN, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Iran said on Monday that its upcoming admission to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as a full member state will promote regionalism and facilitate the economic development of other member states.

At a weekly press conference held in the Iranian capital of Tehran, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani hailed Iran's SCO membership, which is expected to be approved at the 23rd meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State on July 4, as a "positive development" for the organization.

Iran exports $19 bn of crude oil Jan-May

Tehran, IRNA – The latest data released by the Energy Information Administration of the United States (EIA) shows that Iran has exported $19 billion of crude oil in the first five months of 2023.

The EIA said in its latest report said that the total oil export of 13 OPEC members in the five months to June 2023 was $293 billion.

The EIA has estimated Iran's total oil revenue in the mentioned period at $19 billion, which is equal to 6.5% of OPEC's total oil exports in the mentioned period.
