USA: Rising humanitarian needs require political will, increased funding: UN relief chief

UNITED NATIONS, Feb 21 (APP): With humanitarian needs spiraling across the world, political will and funding are required to address war, climate change and other drivers, the UN relief chief said Monday.

The world is facing the largest food crisis in modern history and famine is looming, while human rights – especially women’s rights – are under attack and tensions are high in places where injustice is rife, UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths said in remarks to the Riyadh Humanitarian Forum in Saudi Arabia, delivered on behalf of the Secretary-General.

Blinken says US ready to discuss arms limitations with Russia

NEW YORK, February 21. /TASS/: The US is still ready to discuss with Russia the issue of strategic arms limitation at any time, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Tuesday.

"[The US is] ready to talk about strategic arms limitations at any time with Russia, irrespective of anything else going on in the world or in our relationship," he told reporters accompanying him on a visit to Athens, according to the New York Times.

UNITED NATIONS, Feb 21 (NNN-AGENCIES) — UN member states embraced “positive energy” as they launched two weeks of negotiations aimed at finally reaching a treaty meant to protect and preserve vast areas of the world’s oceans.

After more than 15 years of formal and informal talks, this is the third time in less than a year that negotiators have converged on New York in what, yet again, is supposed to be a final and conclusive round.

But as the talks, set to run through March 3, opened on Monday, cautious optimism appeared to be taking hold.

UN: Guterres reiterates that all settlements are illegal under international law

Guterres made his comment as he expressed his deep concern about the Israeli government's announcement that it is "legalising" nine settlement outposts in the occupied West Bank. Such outposts are illegal under international and even Israeli law.
